Biographical Note

Thomas F. Mulledy, S.J. was the first president of Holy Cross. Born on August 12, 1794 in Virginia, Mulledy went on to study at Georgetown in 1813, until he entered the Jesuits in 1815. After studying in Rome, he was ordained in 1825. In 1829 he was appointed president at Georgetown and served as Provincial of the Maryland Jesuits from 1837-1840. After spending three years in Italy, he accepted the position of president at Holy cross in 1843. He held the position until 1845. He returned to the College again in 1854 to serve as college chaplain and dean of studies. Mulledy died on July 20, 1861.
