Biographical Note

James Ryder, S.J. was born on October 8, 1800 in Dublin, Ireland. In 1813 he began studying at Georgetown College, when he then entered the Jesuits two years later. After conducting his theological studies in Rome, he was ordained in 1825. He served as president of Georgetown from 1843-1845 and again from 1848-1851. He became president of Holy Cross in 1845. Ryder died January 12, 1860.
