Biographical Note

Rev. Anthony F. Ciampi, S.J. was born in Rome on January 29, 1816. He entered the Jesuit order in September of 1832 and was ordained in 1847. He served as president of Holy Cross for three terms: 1851-1854, 1857-1861, and 1869-1873. After Fenwick Hall was damaged in a fire, Ciampi led efforts to restore and reopen the College in 1853. During his life, he also served as president of Loyola College and conducted missionary work in Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Ciampi died on November 24, 1893.
