Biographical Note
Peter J. Blenkinsop was born on April 19th, 1818 in Dublin, Ireland. Immigrating to the United States in 1826, he enrolled in St. Mary’s College in 1830. Blenkinsop entered the Jesuit order in 1834 and was sent to Georgetown College for his theological studies in 1838. He was ordained in 1846. He served as treasurer at Holy Cross until he was appointed president in 1854. He left the College in 1857 to work in Jesuit churches in Massachusetts, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, until his death on November 5, 1896.
