Biographical Note

Edward Boone, S.J. was the first Holy Cross alum to become president of the College. He was born in Washington, D.C. on February 27, 1833. He enrolled at Holy Cross in 1847 and graduated with the class of 1851. He entered into the Jesuit order on September 8, 1852, completing his theological studies at Georgetown. Boone was ordained on July 2, 1866 and assumed the role as president of Holy Cross, after several years of teaching. He served as president until 1883 when he continued on to work as a prison chaplain in Baltimore, Maryland. He died on January 16, 1916.
