Biographical Note

Samuel Cahill, S.J. was born in Ireland on July 24, 1844. He entered the Jesuit order in 1868 after traveling to Frederick, Maryland. After his theological studies at Woodstock College, Cahill was ordained in 1880. After working many administrative positions at Loyola College, St. Joseph’s College, and Boston College, he was chosen to serve as president at Holy Cross in 1887. Poor health forced him to step down in 1889. He died October 25, 1910 in Philadelphia.
