Biographical / Historical
Edward A. McGurk was born on October 6, 1841 in New York City. After studying at St. Joseph Prep in Philadelphia, he entered into the Jesuit order in 1857. He went on to teach rhetoric at Holy Cross from 1861-1866. He was ordained in 1872. After teaching at Boston College for a period of time, he served as president of Loyola College from 1877-1885, president of Gonzaga College (1885-1890), and again at Holy Cross from 1893-1895. He passed away on July 3, 1896 and was buried in the College cemetery.
