Scope and Contents
The College Events and Activities record group contains materials pertaining to events and activities that were held on campus but were not sponsored by a student organization or an academic department. Materials include correspondence, programs, press releases, flyers and newspaper clippings. This record group is arranged in the following series: Lecture Series; College Events and Activities; Anniversaries and Special Events; Debating Events; Senior Shows; and Senior Convocations.
The Lecture series contains items pertaining to the following named lecture series: Christian Encounter; Hanify-Howland; Hiatt Commemorative Program and Rodino. Materials in this series date between 1962 to 2019.
The College Events and Activities series holds materials dating from 1870 to present day. Some of the events in this series were annual while most are one-off events and activities.
The Anniversaries and Special Events series has records pertaining to the College’s anniversaries including co-education. Materials in this series date from 1893-2023.
The Debating Events series contains materials pertaining to the rich debating tradition on campus dating between 1891 to 2003.
Records in the Senior Shows series pertain to the former campus tradition of the Senior class performing a theatrical play or musical performance during their final year on the hill. These records date from 1914 to 2002.
Finally, the Student Convocations series holds records related to the First Year Student Convocation held during the fall semester and the Senior Convocation held in the spring semester. See RG14-03B Honorary Degrees for academic convocations in which an honorary degree was awarded.
All series are arranged in chronological order.

Historical Note
The Hanify-Howland Memorial Lecture, which recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves in the realm of public service, is named after Hon. Edward F. Hanify, class of 1904, a prominent Massachusetts jurist, who was an active Holy Cross alumnus until his death in 1954 and Weston Howland, who endowed the lecture in Judge Hanify’s memory.
The Hanify-Howland Memorial Lecture Committee is a student committee that works directly with the President's Office and the Hanify and Howland families to choose an annual speaker to address the College community on issues of public affairs.
