This record group documents student organizations at the College throughout its history with the earliest materials dating to 1848. Records of these organizations are arranged into the following eleven series: Academic Organizations; Arts Organizations; Campus Service Organizations; Club Sports and Recreational Organizations; Media Organizations; Multicultural Organizations; Peer Education Organizations; Philanthropic Organizations; Pre-Professional Organizations; Religious Organizations and Special Interest Organizations. Within each series, individual clubs and organizations are arranged in alphabetical order.

Historical Note

The Emerald Shield Society was founded circa 1965 as the "campus humor society." It described its purpose as "to entertain the student body and prevent life at Holy Cross from becoming excessively serious." The club produced its own films, a campus magazine, a radio show, humorous competitions, and events.
