Scope and Contents
This record group documents student organizations at the College throughout its history with the earliest materials dating to 1848. Records of these organizations are arranged into the following eleven series: Academic Organizations; Arts Organizations; Campus Service Organizations; Club Sports and Recreational Organizations; Media Organizations; Multicultural Organizations; Peer Education Organizations; Philanthropic Organizations; Pre-Professional Organizations; Religious Organizations and Special Interest Organizations. Within each series, individual clubs and organizations are arranged in alphabetical order.

Historical Note
The Rifle Club existed at Holy Cross since circa 1930, eventually changing its name to the Holy Cross Gun Club. the group formed with the intent of encouraging rifle shooting among students. The group later expanded to include the promotion of of safety and interest in trap, skeet, handgun and rife shooting, and hunting. The group taught safety procedures and sponsered inter-collegiate, local and National Rifle Association competition.
