Historical Note

This department serves as a resource to promote diversity, inclusion, and social justice at the College of the Holy Cross through policies and faculty/staff recruitment and hiring. The office also collaborates with other departments, such as the Office of Multicultural Education. The office is led by the Associate Provost for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion who also oversees the Office of International Students and Academic Services and Learning Resources.

This office was originally created in June 2015 and led by the Associate Director, Greta Kenney. She was then promoted to the title of Director in 2017, serving in that role until January 2019.

Amit Taneja was hired as Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer, a new position at Holy Cross, in 2015. In June of 2017 he was promoted to Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. He was promoted to Associate Provost for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in May 2019. Previously, he held positions at Syracuse University and Hamilton College. Taneja holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of British Columbia and an M.A. in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University. He is also a Certified Affirmative Action Officer.

In 2022, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion was merged with the Office of Multicultural Education.
