William S. Vare of Philadelphia and Frank L. Smith of Illinois were elected Republican U.S. Senators in 1926. Because of excessive spending in the primaries, they were denied their seats by the Senate.

This collection contains 51 oversized ink and pencil drawings by Berryman. Though most are undated, many of the cartoons depict political leaders and events of 1924-1926, when Calvin Coolidge was President and Al Smith was a dominating poltiical figure. Other figures illustrated include Herbert Hoover, Henry Ford, Charles G. Dawes, Andrew W. Mellon, and William G. McAdoo.
