Biographical Note
John Haran was born on September 9, 1904 in Worcester, MA. He attended Holy Cross from 1921 to 1922 and entered the Jesuit Society on August 22 of that year. He attended St. Andrew-on-Hudson in Poughkeepsie, NY from 1922 to 1926 and Weston College from 1931 to 1935.
He was ordained on June 20, 1934 and attended the Pontifical Grecorian University in Rome, Italy from 1936-1938 from his PH.D and S.TL. Degrees. In 1938 he completed his dissertation: Dissertatio Ad Lauream, In Facultate Theologica.
While at Holy Cross he was chairman of the Theology Department from 1949 to 1958. He also worked with the Industrial Relations School from 1952-1956. In 1951 Rev. Haran was the Director of the Institute on Religion. He died on March 12, 1981.
