Biographical Note
Joseph D. Fitzgerald was born on March 9, 1889. He graduated from Boston College High School in 1918 and entered the Society of Jesus in September 1918. Fr. Fitzgerald was ordained on June 16, 1931. He taught at Boston College from 1932 to 1937 and then, heserved as dean of studies at Holy Cross from 1939 – 1948. Next, Fr. Fitzgerald was prefect of studies for the New England Province of the Society of Jesus from 1948 – 1951. In 1951, he was named rector of the Jesuit community at Fairfield University. He returned to his work as province prefect of studies in 1958 and from 1962 – 1968 was the superior at St. Andrew Bobola House in Boston. Fr. Fitzgerald returned to Holy Cross in 1968 and died on September 23, 1974.
