This collection contains the papers of William E. Reiser. The majority of the collection includes his personal correspodnence during the Second World War when he was a solider in the United States Army. Most of these letters were written to his wife, Fran but there is some correspondence to his brothers. They date from September 1942 to November 1945. The correspondence was transcribed by Reiser's son, Fr. William Reiser, S.J. and can be found in Box 5. Finally, the collection has many of the envelopes of the original letters, photographs, records pertaining to Reiser's military service and other ephemera.

Biographical Note

William E. Reiser was born on March 12, 1921. He married his wife, Fran (October 8, 1919 - June 3, 2017) on April 11, 1942 at Saint Lawrence O'Toole Church in Hartford, CT. They had eight children including Rev. William Reiser, S.J. He enlisted in the United States Army during the summer of 1942 and was discharged in December 1945. Reiser was a staff sergeant in the 299 Port Company and saw action in the European Theater including the Invasion of Normandy in 1944. Following the war, he worked as an electrician for Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, CT. Reiser died on June 6, 1998.
