Rev. Joseph Busam, S.J. Papers
Scope and Contents
This collection contains the personal papers of Fr. Busam and includes his personal correspondence with the Knights of Columbus dating from 1961-1980 as well as legal papers. Additionally, there are invitations and anniversary records and some of these materials pertain to his Golden Julibee as a Jesuit. Additionally, the collections holds family portraits and vacation photographs dating from the 1930s through the 1970s. Most of these are black and white.

Biographical Note
Joseph Busam was born on June 26, 1892 to Joseph F. and Mary Ellen (McCusker) Busam. He graduated from Medford High School and attended Boston College for one year before entering the Society of Jesus at Saint Andre-on-Hudson, Poughkeepsie, New York, in 1911. He undertook the study of philosophy and science at Woodstock College from 1915-1918 and received an M.A. in science. Busam taught biology at Boston College and then at Canisius College. He was ordained on June 28, 1925. In 1929, Rev. Busam came to Holy Cross to teach biology and spent forty years teaching here. In his long tenure, Rev. Busam was the pre-medical advisor and assisted in planning the construction of O’Neil Hall. He was also Professor Emeritus of Biology. He died on August 13, 1980.
