Scope and Contents

This collection mostly contains correspondence as well as personal and military papers of Fr. Gallagher. Additionally, there are a few photographs of friends and family. Of particular note are materials pertaining to his service as Navy Chaplain during World War II. In addition to correspondence, there are photographic negatives of a mass he conducted on a beach in the Pacific. The materials in the collection date from 1898 to 1964 with the majority dating from 1940 to 1964.

Scope and Contents This collection includes a typescript copy of the 534-page typescript diary kept by Fr. Foley documented his experience as a naval chaplain during the Second World War. The diary dates from April 1942 to January 1945. The diary mainly gives an account of his day-to-day activities while at sea but also includes battle descriptions and sermons he delivered.
