Scope and Contents

This small volume contains approximately 40 pages of poetry and writings copied from various sources. It was owned by an unknown person, perhaps a student, but was the gift of “Fr. Rector” in 1880. It is possible that was Rev. Edward Boone, S.J. ninth president of Holy Cross.

Many of the entries were copied from well-known authors such as Emerson and Wordsworth and some are the works of Catholic clergy. There are several loose religious items in the volume.

Unidentified Notebooks Collection

The collection contains four notebooks containing writings of an unidentified priest. Volume one contains contains sermons along with French language exercises. A second book contains a sermon on the life of St. Francis Xavier. A third book is written in Latin and served as a retreat guide. The fourth book contains notes from an 1843 retreat as well as sermon. There are two partial notebooks which contain miscellaneous writings.
