Biographical Note
William J. Healy, S.J. was born on July 22, 1907 in South Boston, Massachusetts. After graduation from Boston College High School in 1925, he entered the Jesuit order. He studied philosophy and theology at Weston College from 1929-1936 and was ordained on July 23, 1935. He taught English at Shadowbrook for six years before being appointed president of Holy Cross in 1945. After leaving Holy Cross in 1948, he began a new role in 1950 as Dean of Studies at Sophia University in Japan. He came back to the United States in 1953 to serve as Dean of Studies at Fairfield University, Connecticut. After almost 10 years, Healy returned to Holy Cross in 1962 and taught English until his retirement in 1977. Healy died suddenly on July 6, 1982 and was buried in the College cemetery.
