Biographical Note

Francis J. Dolan was born in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts on July 14, 1893. He studied at both Boston College High School and Boston College before entering the Jesuit order on September 8, 1912. He studied philosophy at Woodstock College and continued on to teach classics at Loyola College from 1919-1920. He then began teaching at Holy Cross until 1923. He went back to serve at Boston College as Dean of Freshman until he transferred back to Holy Cross in 1930 as Dean of Studies. He was appointed as president in 1933. He died suddenly on September 6, 1939 and was buried in the College cemetery.
