Poetry Manuscripts (10 items)
Scope and Contents
The Writing series is the second largest of the subgroup and contains manuscripts, research notes and copies of some of Guiney’s published work in periodicals. This series is divided into four files: Recusant Poets; Manuscripts; Published Writing; and Research Notes. Materials date from 1879 to 1957. Notably, this series holds research notes, correspondence, and drafts pertaining to Recusant Poets, which was published after Guiney’s death by her collaborator, Rev. Bliss. These materials also reveal her cousin’s role in publishing the book. The Manuscript file contains drafts of some of Guiney’s work. Some are more complete than others. The completed version of some of these manuscripts can be found in the Published Writings file, which mostly contains photocopies of Guiney’s work published in magazines and periodicals. Many of the original publications have been retained but photocopies were made for preservation purposes.
