Scope and Contents

This collection contains the personal correspondence of Rev. McLoughlin. There is also correspondence concerning Mary Roberts who left a convent and sought McLoughlin’s help in clearing an issue she had with the convent. Additionally, there is a retreat notebook which McLoughlin wrote probably as a student at Holy Cross.

Biographical Note

Rev. Thomas F. McLoughlin, S.J. was born in Worcester on November 21, 1858. He studied at the local schools and attended Holy Cross. He entered the Jesuit Novitiate in Frederick, Maryland on May 24, 1877. He taught for five years at Georgetown and was ordained in 1891. He taught Philosophy at Holy Cross for the remainder of his career. In addition, he served as a trustee for the college and was active with the teacher’s bureau at the college which helped to place college graduates in teaching positions. Fr. McLoughlin died on April 18, 1919.
