Scope and Contents
The book is a published manuscript of a collection of recipes compiled by the Massachusetts Women’s Christian Temperance Union. It was published by E.B. Stillings & Co. Printers of Boston, MA in 1878. It contains recipes for the preparation of meats, soups, pies, ect. The manuscript also contains remedies for many illnesses including colds, smallpox and even a process to remove unwanted freckles. The book also contains “Useful Knowledge” such as how to fix broken china and how to properly keep a garden.

Historical Note
The Massachusetts Women’s Christian Temperance Union was incorporated in 1877. The Union was a collection of local organizations with the common goal of combating intemperance in the state of Massachusetts and the country as a whole.
