Scope and Contents
This collection documents Rev. Delaney’s career as an educator and as a Jesuit priest. It mostly contains his writings including correspondence and sermons. The majority of the collections are copies of his sermons. They are arranged in alphabetical order by subject. Additionally, the collection contains some print ephemera such as certificates.

Biographical Note
Rev. Cyril Delaney, S.J. was born on July 7, 1911 in Cambridge, MA, son of Joseph and Ellen (Lawton) Delaney. He attended Boston College for one year before entering the Society of Jesus in 1930. He studied at St. Louis University and taught at Boston College. Fr. Delaney was ordained on June 13, 1942. He began teaching English and Theology at Holy Cross in 1946. In 1967, he gave the Merriman Lecture on the Second Vatican Council’s Decree on Ecumenism. Fr. Delaney taught at Holy Cross until his death on June 20, 1973.
