Historical Note

The Sodalities of Our Lady were founded in the sixteenth century and were traditionally associated with the Society of Jesus. The Worcester chapter was a men’s group founded in 1945 and dedicated to a vigorous living of their Christian faith. Ignatian Retreats played a major role in their decision to live their faith. The Sodality also held a special devotion to Mary, the mother of Jesus, Their activities involved charitable works, donations, volunteer works, etc. While membership was open to Catholic men in the County, a large percentage of the members were alumni of Holy Cross. Meetings were held on the College campus and spiritual advisors were Jesuits from the Holy Cross College community. Most active from the 1940’s through the 1980’s, the organization disbanded in 2011.
