Scope and Content
This small leather notebook contains hand-written poems by Rev. Owen Hill, S.J. Many of the poems relate to religious matters including saints, the Catholic Church and Jesuits. There are several poems about the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. On the inside back cover is a poem entitled “Alumni Hall” about the building at Holy Cross.

Biographical Note
Rev. Owen A. Hill was born in Washington, D.C. in July 1863. He studied at Gonzaga College and joined the Jesuits on his seventeenth birthday. He studied at Woodstock College and was ordained in 1895. He taught literature and philosophy at Holy Cross, Georgetown University, Fordham and St. Joseph’s College in Philadelphia. He was the author of several books including a textbook on ethics. In his later years, he did parish work in Washington and Philadelphia.
