This collection holds the papers of Rev. William Carey, S.J. dating from 1910 to 1945. The majority of the collection is his correspondence and this dates from 1924 to 1944. Additionally, there is ephemera and other records including newspaper clippings, event programs and book lists.

Biographical Note

Rev. William A. Carey, S.J. was born in Boston on February 22, 1895. He studied philosophy at Woodstock College from 1916 to 1919 and taught high school at Canisius High School in Buffalo, NY from 1923 to 1927. He was ordained on June 14, 1926. Rev. Carey taught cosmology and the history of philosophy from 1928 to 1933 at Weston College. In 1933, he went to Oxford University to study English and returned to Weston College for eight years to teach natural theology and the history of philosophy. He then taught at College of the Holy Cross for five years and at the summer graduate schools of Boston College. He died on January 1, 1945 in Worcester.
