Scope and Contents
This small autograph book contains dated and undated signatures from primarily Jesuits and Novices from the 1880s. Many of the signers wrote messages, approximately half were written in Latin and the other half in English with one in an Asiatic language.

Biographical Note
Rev. William H. Coyle, S.J. (1856-1937) was born in Bridgeport, CT in 1856 and he studied at St. Francis Xavier College in New York. He joined the Society of Jesus in 1878 and was ordained in 1896. Fr. Coyle took his final vows in 1922. He served as a member of the Jesuit band of missionaries for 13 years. He taught at St. Francis Xavier College in New York and later at St. Joseph’s College in Philadelphia, where he was also the treasurer of the Jesuit house at Woodstock, MD. He came to Holy Cross in 1922 to serve as the college’s treasurer, a position he held until 1930. He spent one year as the assistant Chaplin in 1931 and became the college Chaplin in 1932. Fr. Coyle held this position until his death in 1937.
