Historical Note
St. Joseph’s of Leicester, MA was built in 1869. The brick church was built to replace a wooden church in order to accommodate the growing number of Catholics in the region. The corner stone was laid on September 1, 1867 by Rev. Robert W. Brady, S.J., president of Holy Cross at the time. The Church was dedicated on January 2, 1869 by Right Rev. John J. Williams, Bishop of Boston. The church was attended to by the Jesuits of Holy Cross until 1873. The parish as it exists today was established by Rev. David F. McGrath in 1880.
