Scope and Contents

This collection includes the papers of Dr. Michael J. Fallon, MD and his son, Dr. John M. Fallon, MD. It includes writings, publications, correspondence, reports and Holy Cross ephemera. Additionally, there are two scrapbooks in the collection, one featuring clippings about Holy Cross alumni belonging to Michael Fallon and the other from John Fallon's student experience at the College. There is a photograph album compiled by John Fallon and it features photographs of the Holy Cross campus, athletics and unidentified individuals. It is unclear the author of writings in one folder but it is believed to be one of the Fallon's. Materials in the collection date from 1903-1948 and is arranged by individual.

Biographical Note

Michael J. Fallon, MD was born in 1863 to Irish immigrant parents, James Fallon and Mary Dwyer Fallon. He grew up in Worcester, MA and received his bachelor degree from the College of the Holy Cross in 1884. He then attended Harvard Medical School, and received an MD in 1887. Fallon married Ella Ford and his son, John M. Fallon, MD, was also a graduate of Holy Cross. Dr. Fallon was the chief surgeon at St. Vincent Hospital from 1908-1933. He died at the age of 75 in 1938.

John Fallon, MD (1901-1951) was born in Worcester, MA on September 17, 1901. He was the son of distinguished surgeon, Dr. Michael Fallon and Ella Ford. Fallon received an A.B. degree from Holy Cross College in 1921 and MD from Harvard Medical School in 1923. He was the director and a surgeon at the Fallon Clinic in Worcester MA, which was founded by his father. He was a well established medical and non-medical writer. He was married twice, and had seven children. He died of a heart attack on June 21, 1951 at the age of 49.
