Cardinal John Henry Newman Collection

Lathrop Family Collection
The Lathrop Family Collection contains materials pertaining to George and Rose Lathrop including correspondence, manuscripts, writings, newspaper clippings, ephemera and photographs. The majority of the collection is correspondence and there are letters written by Rose and George. Additionally, there are a few letters written by Rose after she founded the religious order, Servants of Relief for Incurable Cancer and was known as Mother Mary Alphonsa. Materials date from 1870 to 1910.
Rev. George A. Higgins, S.J. Papers
This collection consists of notes and writings used by Fr. Higgins when he gave retreats as well as his personal retreat notes. There is one folder of clippings, brochures and material collected by him to use during his retreat. Additionally, the collections has two certificates awarded to Fr. Higgins. Both are in Latin.
Rev. James Perron, S.J. Papers
This collection of notes and papers appear to have been written by Rev. James Perron, S.J. One item is a list of papers of the late Rev. Perron, S.J. Others materials include sermons, notes on trees, the New Testament, and writings on topics relating to the Jesuits. Some of the items are written in French.
Rev. Joseph Prendergast, S.J. Papers
This collection contains the papers of Fr. Prendergast dating from 1872 to 1924. Materials include correspondence, personal items such as receipts and photographs, account books, and religious writings. The religious items forms the majority of the collection and mostly consists of sermons and retreat notebooks. Lecutres may also be found in the collection. Finally, the collection has one of Fr. Prendergast's stoles, which is in fragile condition.
Rev. T. Lawrence Foran, S.J. Papers
This collection contains the personal papers of Rev. T. Lawrence Foran, S.J. including personal diaries, correspondence, writings, sermons, poety, notebooks and photographs. Other materials found in this collection include a copy of his master's thesis, certificates including diplomas, a rosary and a medallion of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. Items date between 1909 and 1983.
Rev. Thomas L. Kelly Papers
The collection contains materials collected and used by Rev. Kelly to write the histories and biographies during the course of his career. His work included a history of Mount Saint Mary’s College and a biography on Rev. James Mullen. The collection also includes personal correspondence, and a two volume autobiography written in 1906. There is photographs and images of individuals featured in his writings as well as notes on a biography of Bishop Fenwick of Boston.

Sermons and Writing Book
This volume contains writings in Gaelic as well as two poems in English written by Patrick Denn. The author of the volume is unclear but it is believed to be Patrick Denn. The poem at the end of the volume is dated July 30, 1816 and there is a notation on the first page in Latin for the College of the Holy Cross. There are approximately 200 pages.
