Scope and Contents

This collection contains the personal papers of Rev. T. Lawrence Foran, S.J. including personal diaries, correspondence, writings, sermons, poety, notebooks and photographs. Other materials found in this collection include a copy of his master's thesis, certificates including diplomas, a rosary and a medallion of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. Items date between 1909 and 1983.

Biographical Note

Thomas Lawrence Foran was born on June 25, 1897 in Worcester, MA to Thomas and Ellen (Dolan) Foran. He attended St. John’s High School in Worcester. He then matriculated to Holy Cross in 1916 and spent two years at the College before joining the Society of Jesus in 1918. He was ordained on June 20, 1932. Fr. Foran taught at Boston College and Canisius College in Buffalo, NY and later, he became a professor at Shadowbrook in Lenox, MA He returned to Holy Cross in 1939. Fr. Foran was a professor of Latin, Greek, English and Theology at Holy Cross until 1961 as well as moderator of the Catholic Alumni Sodality of Our Lady of Worcester County from 1945 until 1980. Fr. Foran died on August 3, 1984 at the age of 87.
